Isco, Bale or Benzema. That is the conundrum that will be stuck in Zidane's head for the remainder of the week as the countdown to Kiev continued in earnest.
There are unlikely to be any rogue selections as Zidane and Madrid go in search of an unprecedented third straight Champions League crown, with Keylor Navas, Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Casemiro, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Cristiano Ronaldo all certain to start the clash, fitness permitting. Though that does leave space for two players to force their way into the side for arguably the biggest game in club football.
That decision is likely to come down to a straight shootout between the three players mentioned above.
- The man they call 'Magic' .
It shows the quality in the Real Madrid side that Isco is not guaranteed a start every week. The former Malaga man has contributed nine goals and ten assists in 2,899 minutes of action spread over 48 games so far this season, in what are impressive figures from the 26-year-old.
The classy playmaker has started nine of his side's 12 Champions League encounters and would be the perfect option should Zidane choose to pack his midfield and aim to nullify Liverpool's threat on the counter by starving them of the ball altogether.
- Pace and power -
It is widely considered that Gareth Bale has endured a difficult season, despire racking up 19 goals and six assists in 38 games and 2,334 minutes of football this season. Whilst it is true that he has not enjoyed the number of starts he would have liked, the 'Cardiff Express' has ended the season in fine form, scoring five goals in his last four La Liga games.
However, the Champions League has not been kind to him this season, with the Welshman making just six appearances in the competition this campaign, just three of which were starts.
An ineffictive 45 minutes against Juventus in the second leg of the quarter-final is unlikely to do his hopes of a start much good.
- Old reliable -
Finally, there is Karim Benzema. The Frenchman retains the confidence of Zidane despite a deeply frustrating season in front of goal, with 11 goals and ten assists his return from 46 games and 3,147 minutes of action.
In front of goal, the experienced striker has endured his worst campaign since joining Real Madrid, though his tally of four goals in eight games in the Champions League remains respectable.
His brace against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the semi-finals could come into his manager's thinking as he looks to find a way of breaching the Liverpool backline.
Three players with three very different styles battling for two positions. Who Zidane chooses will give us more than a hint as to how he will approach Saturday's encounter.
