The aim of the name change had reportedly been to make the organisation seem less arrogant, and so instead of being the Football Assocation it would become the more localised English Football Association.
However, the proposal of Greg Clarke, president of the FA has been rejected by the organisations chief and has been vetoed as a result.
The proposal would also take away 155 years of history for the association, which has held its current name for all this time.
