Szczesny open to come out of retirement to replace Barca's Ter Stegen

Following Ter Stegen's injury in the match against Villareal, Barcelona are in desperate need of a replacement goalkeeper. The German international is set to be out for the rest of the season, with recovery timings estimating a 8-12 month-period on the sidelines.

As of now, Inaki Pena is expected to fill in the boots of ter-Stegen, however, the club does not seem ready to put its full trust on the 25-year-old, and have thrown themselves in the market in search of a capable goalkeeper to have alongside the Spaniard. That said, the options for Barca are limited, as the 'Blaugrana' are only able to look at the free agents' market due to the closure of the transfer window. 

Keylor Navas and Claudio Bravo have already been named as potential replacements, with both keepers offering themselves to the club. Bravo is not the only player willing to think twice on his decision to retire, as former Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is also open to joining Barcelona.

Szczesny announced his retirement from professional football at the end of the 2023/2024 season, however, the Polish international could reconsider, should the Catalan giants come knocking on his door. His connection to compatriot Robert Lewandowski could play a significant role in his decision-making process. Szczesny could represent a better option for the club over the likes of Navas and Bravo, as his decision to hang up to boots came as a surprise to many, especially given his consistent performances in his last years at Turin.
