Saints frustrate City to continue winless run

Pep Guardiola recalled top scorer Sergio Aguero and club captain Vincent Kompany to the starting line-up but still couldn't manage to pick up a much-needed three points.
Both teams started tentatively with the opening 20 minutes not producing any real chances of note.
However, Southampton were gifted the opening goal of the game just before the half-hour mark after Stones' wayward pass played in Southampton forward Nathan Redmond who rounded Bravo and finished to put the visitors in front.
Soon after Redmond's opener, Manchester City thought they were back in the game when John Stones had the ball in the back the net. City's celebrations were short-lived as the assistant referee had his flag up for offside. To add insult to injury for Guardiola's men, the former Everton man was onside when De Bruyne swung in a free-kick, and the flag appeared to be for Sergio Aguero, who didn't touch the ball.
Guardiola made a change at half-time bringing on Kelechi Iheanacho for Kevin De Bruyne and the Nigerian didn't need long to get his side back on level terms. Leroy Sane crossed for the striker 10 minutes after half-time and Iheanacho steered in the German's low ball past Forster.
City had chances to make it 2-1 when Gundogan forced a good low save from Forster and Aguero also headed over.
The Saints also had their own chances in the second half, with Charlie Austin stinging the palms of Claudio Bravo.
Man City may feel that they deserved to win simply on the basis that they had a legitimate goal disallowed but despite this, Southampton produced a really impressive performance away from home at one of the best sides in the league. Therefore, it would have been harsh if the Saints went back to the south coast empty-handed.
