It is clear that the victory of Luka Modric in the Ballon d'Or awards left many unsatisfied. In reality, countless voices in the press and among football players themselves denounced the Croatians' victory, as they believed that others were more deserving of the prize. Although this Friday, news outlet 'Actufoot' raised it's own concerns about the awards, but for more controversial reasons.
The aforementioned news outlet have published sensational claims made by the Trinidad and Tobago journalist who voted in the awards ballot. Allegedly, the journalists's votes were reversed. That is, his first choice was supposedly his fifth and vice versa.
Although more alarmingly in the case of the journalist from Comoros, Abdou Boina, the ballot is even more obscure. The journalist in question is said to not even exist, and the newspaper for which he hypothetically works, does not exist either- it hasn't for six years.
A handful of dubious situations that have been rumoured for many years, almost always with countries that operate far and away from the heart of football. One thing for certain; Modric obtained an ample advantage on second placed Cristiano Ronaldo, and Antoine Griezmann in third.
