Real Madrid shake up the transfer market

The financial muscle that Real president Florentino Pérez is flexing this summer transfer window is what many fans have been crying out for over the past few years. A very disappointing past season and a promise of reinforcements made to Zinedine Zidane has led to a flurry of summer signings.

The numbers are there to confirm it - Madrid have made the most expensive signing so far this window, and five of the top ten most costly transfers have been completed by the Spanish giants.

Real will pay at least 100 million Euros for Eden Hazard: a figure that could rise to 170 million with add-ons, according to English sources.

Excluding the Belgian, the most expensive signing has been Lucas Hernández, who has made the move from Atlético to Bayern Munich after the German champions paid his 80 million Euro release clause. At 75 million Euros, Barcelona's capture of Frenkie de Jong rounds out the top three.

Just outside the top three, the next four names are all players who have recently arrived at the Bernabéu: Luka Jovic (60M), Eder Militao (50M), Ferland Mendy (48M) and Rodrygo (40M), meaning Madrid's current spending sits at a whopping 298 million Euros.

However, 'Los Blancos' may not be finished with their summer signings. Paul Pogba is their biggest target now, and if they do seal a deal for the French midfielder, it would take their summer spending to over 400 million Euros - an amount that no team has spent in one window before.

Raúl Jiménez (Wolverhampton, 38M), Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich, 35M) and Kerem Demirbay (Bayer Leverkusen, 32M) complete the top ten.
