After sacking Xisco Munoz because of the poor results so far in the 2021-22 season, Watford are now looking for someone to come in and make an instant impact to try and turn the club's fortunes around.
Several people have been linked with the job although one of them has become especially likely to take over because of his experience of facing similar challenges. His vast knowledge of the Premier League also plays in his favour.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano and 'Sky Sport', veteran coach Claudio Ranieri has been offered the Watford job.
Different clubs in his homeland of Italy have asked about Ranieri in recent weeks, but he was waiting for other opportunities to come up in the market.
Xisco's departure has opened the doors to him at Watford and both Romano and 'Sky Sport', say that Ranieri is willing to accept the challenge of trying to keep Watford in the top flight.
