Said in another way, PSG have done more for Neymar than Neymar for PSG. That is what Edmilson thinks in an interview with 'Goal'.
He reviewed the latest news regarding the Brazilian as well as on his possible signing for Barcelona, something he had already talked about in the past. "I wouldn't like to be in Valverde's shoes. Because with Rakitic, Arthur, De Jong and Busquets in the midfield, that is four players for three spots," Edmilson started saying.
"And then, in attack you have Messi, Coutinho, Suarez and Dembele without forgetting Griezmann. I think at the end of the transfer window, things will be cleared up," he added.
Edmilson thinks that for there to be signings, someone must leave. "If Neymar comes, someone will have to leave. Maybe Dembele, Coutinho or Suarez. In order to sign him, things are clear, PSG paid the clause," he said.
"Today, Neymar is a Paris Saint Germain player. You have to pay it to buy him from PSG. They are a club which invest a lot. You have to know how to handle that," he continued.
For him, what Neymar wants is to play well again. "What is sure is that Neymar must play football again. That is the most important thing. Whether it is in Paris or elsewhere, that doesn't matter, he has to played," Edmilson explained.
"As a Brazilian, I think that it's a shame to see a player of his quality talk so much about himself, without mentioning football. England? I don't think so. In Italy and Germany neither," he said afterwards.
Edmilson is clear where Neymar's future lies. "Either he will go to Barca or stay in Paris. I think he doesn't have any other option. In any case, he must play football. That is the most important thing for us football fans," he pointed out.
He went on to say that he will get a fairly warm reception from Barca fans. "I think there is a 60:40 percent split in favour of him returning. His departure from Barca was not well received," he explained.
"But fans don't forget the good seasons he has at Barcelona. Today, the crowd are happy as long as Messi plays. Barca revolves around Messi," he also added.
And he ended up valuing the impact his departure would have on Ligue 1. "He is a player which plays the ball. He is a footballing superstar which means lots of advertising for the league," Edmilson said.
"He's not necessarily the best player in the world, but he has lots of charisma for the crowd which go to see him at the stadium. But for that, Neymar must be 100% because during his two seasons at PSG, he has not been 100%," he continued.
And then he ended with a bang. "PSG gave a lot for Neymar, but Neymar didn't gives it his all. His injuries, his behaviour, etc. It's necessary to make an evaluation of his two seasons and ask if the "Neymar product" is profitable or not. I think he has the qualities to give his best again, in Paris and elsewhere," Edmilson said to conclude.
