A conversation between Pogba and Varane sealed the former Real Madrid man's transfer to Manchester United. There were leaks of possible swaps, strong offers and so on, and now 'The Athletic' reports that the midfielder spoke personally to the defender to tell him that a move to Old Trafford could be a very positive move for his career.
They know each other well because they are compatriots and have played in countless matches together for the French national team. Most recently at the European Championship, where, as usual, they were close. It is quite logical that they influence each other given the trust they have in each other.
There was no need for the defender to argue too forcefully about the level of the project that is taking shape at the Red Devils' headquarters. After the signing of Jadon Sancho and the renewal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it was clear that the board's intention is to lay the foundations of a successful squad for the long term.
Even so, Varane speaking to a close friend who listed the pros of joining Manchester United proved pivotal in making it happen. It is a piece of intra-history in one of the most important transfers of the summer transfer window, at least for the time being.
