Liverpool announced the renewal of 30 year-old central defender Virgil van Dijk until 30th June 2025.
The Dutchman's previous contract was due to expire in summer 2023 so his contract has been extended by two years.
After playing at Groningen and Celtic, the Dutchman moved to the Premier League in 2016 to Southampton, a team who he played 80 competitive matches for. That allowed him to make the big step up to Liverpool.
His good performances in the Premier League caught the eye of Liverpool who signed him in 2018. Since then, he has made 130 competitive appearnaces and he has scored 13 times.

A nightmare injury while in his best form
Last season, the defender, one of the best in recent years for Liverpool, got seriously injured and was unable to play more than seven games. Five of those were in the Premier League and two were in the Carabao Cup. That was a major setback for a Van Dijk who was in his best form.
But Jurgen Klopp still has faith in his central defender, who is back to complete at the top level. He is 1.93 metres tall, he leads the Liverpool defensive line and makes his teammates calm. Liverpool's faith in him has been shown by the fact they have renewed one of the best Dutch players up to now and he even competed with Leo Messi for the Ballon d'Or.
