OFFICIAL: Two test positive in second round of PL tests

The Premier League have issued a statement to say that two more players or club staff have tested positive for COVID-19. 

"The Premier League can today confirm that on Tuesday 19 May, Thursday 21 May and Friday 22 May, 996 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, two have tested positive from two clubs," the statement began. 

For Norwich City, it was the first time their players and staff were tested as they did not participate in the first round of tests while it is the second for the other 19 clubs. It has not been revealed who the two people are. 

The league also confirmed that up to 50 people could be tested from each club this time rather than 40. Of course, it is not known whether the two positives have come from either the extra 10 people tested at each club or Norwich City or whether it is from someone who was tested the first time. 

In the first round of testing, six people tested positive out of 748 tests. These six remain in self-isolation and the two new cases will have to self-isolate for seven days. 

The results of each round of testing will continue to be published "for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency," the league confirmed.

It remains to be seen whether this affects Project Restart or not, but matches could return on 19th June despite protests from players such as Troy Deeney.
