Following on from reports yesterday that World Cup winner Mesut Ozil had finally decided on his future, both Arsenal and the player officially confirmed today that Ozil will be remaining in north London for another 3 years.
It is believed the ambition shown by the club in signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, as well as a rumoured £300,000 per week wage packet helped Ozil to make his decision, rather than follow Alexis Sanchez through the exit door. With Sanchez gone it was widely expected that Ozil would leave, with Jose Mourinho never far away, but having signed this deal he reportedly becomes the second-highest earning player in the league - behind Sanchez.

Arsenal fans will be understandably relieved that their playmaker is staying put, and will now be licking their lips at the prospect of him linking up with Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. With two pacy strikers running the lines it will be hoped that with the stability of a new deal Ozil can hit the form he did in his days at Real Madrid. So far Ozil has made 182 appearances for Arsenal, with a return of 36 goals and 61 assists so far, helping them to lift the FA Cup 3 times since joining on Deadline Day in 2013.

The deal will also come as some relief to Arsene Wenger, who had been faced with prospect of seeing his two best players leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
