France was the only one of the big five leagues to call the league to a halt before it had finished due to the coronavirus crisis, but they now have a return date. The first matchday of the 2020-21 season will be the 23rd August. The current champions PSG will face Metz.
Marseille will face Saint Étienne, Monaco are at home to Stade de Reims, and Lyon will be away to Montpellier. It will probably be the domestic competition that starts first, as the rest will use August as holidays for its players.
In the document published officially by Ligue 1, it's not only the dates for matchday one which appear, but the whole calendar. Matchday 19, when all teams have played each other once, will be on 1st January 2021; the season ending the 23rd May of the same year.
We will only have to wait three matchdays to see a top match. PSG will welcome Marseille to the Parc des Princes on 13th September in which will be the first big match of the championship. You can consult the rest of the clubs on the following link.
