The 36-year-old has decided to hang up his boots once United's season comes to an end, finishing an illustrious career in football.
Carrick began life at West Ham, making 159 appearances over five seasons, before enjoying spells at Swindon Town, Birmingham City and Tottenham.
However, it was his move to Old Trafford in 2006 which accelerated his career, going on to appear 463 times over twelve years in Manchester.
During his time at the club, he won five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three League Cups, one Champions League and one Europa League as well as featuring for England on 34 occasions.
It now seems likely that, following his retirement, he will remain at United in a coaching capacity for the first-team.
Speaking about the decision, Carrick said: "There comes a time when your body tells you stop playing football and that's pretty much where I am at now."
Injuries have plagued the latter years of his career. So much so that this season, the midfielder has only featured once for the 'Red Devils' in the league because of an irregular heart rhythm.
