If last Wednesday saw the renewal of Savic, this Thursday the time has come for Gimenez. Atletico Madrid have extended the contract with two of the most important players in Diego Pablo Simeone's squad.
The Uruguayan was under contract until 2023, but has accepted two more years, meaning he will remain linked to the Metropolitano club until 30th June 2025.
Gimenez arrived at the age of 19 and gradually grew at Atletico Madrid to become a key player who even received offers to move to powerful Premier League clubs.
For Cholo, he is one of his safeties, as he has played 216 games to date and has started 193 of them with nine goals and eight assists. His commitment, strength and grit are some of his most faithful characteristics.
"A member of the quartet of captains since the 19-20 campaign, to date he has won not only the aforementioned 2013-14 League but also the 2014 Spanish Super Cup, the 2017-18 Europa League, the 2018 European Super Cup and the last League won in the 2020-21 season, which all Atletico fans are so aware of," said Atletico.
