Nuno Mendes to miss rest of World Cup

Major setback for Portugal in the fight to win the World Cup. Nuno Mendes will not be able to play in the rest of the World Cup given that he suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh. Fernando Santos confirmed it and he said that the player will join the team at his request.

The PSG full-back reappeared for Portugal's second game in Group H at the World Cup in Qatar. That saw them play Uruguay at the Lusail Iconic Stadium. 

In the 41st minute, the player went down on the floor. The referee stopped the game and asked for the medical staff to come on. After this, the coach replaced the defender for Guerreiro. 

The left-back left the pitch with tears in his eyes after suffering a relapse of his hamstring injury. Nuno Mendes will continue to form part of the Portuguese team in Qatar, where he will begin his recovery.
