"Nowadays nobody judges in football terms, just whether you are fat or skinny"

Although by now many people may have forgotten about him, Gonzalo Higuain continues to prolong his career with Inter Miami in the MLS. In order to enjoy his retirement, the Argentine chose a side without as many demands as his previous experiences in Europe. He confessed to 'La Nación' that he did it because he needed something a bit more relaxed.
"The people here don't judge you for scoring or missing a goal. The same goes for the press. Therefore, I live peacefully. It was something that I was searching for. I've returned to waiting in line, living normally, I'm not special", he said regarding his arrival to the MLS.
Higuain recognised that he was burnt-out by the end of his experiences at Europe's highest level. "You can have all the money in the world, but you pay a high price. I played in Madrid, Naples, Turin, Milan, London, and you share your birthdays and Christmas with different colleagues, whilst your life-long friends and your families you barely se at all. And the mistreatment from the press and the fans eats you up."
In this regard, he complained about how nobody analyses in a football sense: "Neither the media nor the fans judge you in football terms, just whether you're fat or thin or bald. I shaved my head and grew out a long beard and that became news."
About his arrival at Real Madrid, Higuain remembered how he had an incredible respect for the stars of the team, something which the new generations aren't doing nowdays. "I didn't speak very much. Imagine, I was shy. And that's another thing that's being lost nowadays. I don't see the 19 or 20 year-old kids looking at a 33-year-old and being amazed. I never went on the massage table either", he continued.
Lastly, the player who has played the most with both Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo claimed that in Argentina they will value his career more in a few years time and, in the same manner, gave a suprising answer to who he thought was the best player aside from the two of them: "I've always thought that Pedro Rodriguez was of the highest quality, someone who has often been underrated. I think he's an extraordinary player."
