"[Manuel Neuer] wants to win the European Championship, and he wants to win the Champions League again". So were the words of the goalkeeper's agent to German newspaper 'Sueddeutsche Zeitung'. The player is reaching 33 years old and has a contract with Bayern until 2021; but Bayern is starting to feel too small for a player who has been considered to be the best in the world by many.
Bayern currently has only made two signings for next year, Pavard and Lucas Hernandez, but fans and players alike are waiting for more, especially after big departures such as Lewandoski, Robery and Robben, who had been making the difference for years. For this reason, Manuel Neuer, who has also had a lowering in his own performance which cast doubts in the German national team, could be looking for a new adventure away from Munich.
As stated by his agent, he wants to compete more: "Manuel is driven by success. My impression is that the distance from the four top English teams is already alarming and Munich’s roster has not yet been set up accordingly — that is, competitively — so as also to pursue Manuel’s goals seriously."
He then made the comment which newspapers have taken as a hint he could be looking for another team: "he doesn’t want to stop in 2021. [Hence, it is] now the phase in which he has to make up his mind: what is the perspective for the future? Extending his contract and ending his career with FC Bayern is of course the obvious model. But not the only one", he warned.
After spending the 2017-18 season out due to injuries, Neuer returned to the Bavarian goal last season, playing 38 games and conceding just 24 goals. He's not exactly a kid anymore, but he wouldn't be short of offers if he decided to leave.
