Hoffenheim loanee Reiss Nelson says a word in the ear from Jadon Sancho convinced him to move to the Bundesliga in the summer despite there being considerable interest in his services closer to home.

Nelson joined Hoffenheim on loan from Arsenal in the summer and has impressed so far in German football, scoring twice off the bench for Julian Nagelsmann's side as they look to carry on their fine form from last season.

The Arsenal man's performances were then rewarded with an England U21 call-up, with Nelson duly finding the back of the net with a sumptuous free-kick against Scotland.

A good friend of Nelson's is recent England debutant Jadon Sancho, who made the move to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund last summer on a permanent basis and Nelson has revealed that it was the former Manchester City man that convinced him to make a go of things in Germany.

"Jadon knows I like one against ones, he knows I'm a fast player and said there were a lot of those opportunities," Nelson revealed.

"We've got a lot of similarities so he said I should go over there and that's how I can show my brilliance."
