Navas delivers after Zidane gave him the nod

As he did against Celta, the first match in charge after being reappointed as manager, chose Keylor Navas in goal. He is the first manager to give the Costa Rican extended amounts of game time.

Julen Lopetegui did it at the beginning due to the late arrival of Courtois, after the World Cup in Russia, but as soon as he could he took over in goal. Santiago Solari opted for the Belgian at all times even removing Navas from the Champions League.

Although, upon his arrival Zidane announced changes in goal to try to ensure all three goalkeepers competed at the end of the season. Courtois' injury, sustained while playing with the Belgian national team prevented him from doing so. He has not played a match with Real Madrid since 10 March. He was recalled to the squad against Getafe, but could only manage a place on the bench.

It was the 20th match in Keylor's season, after nine in La Liga altogether, seven played in Copa del Rey, three in the Champions League and two in the European Super Cup. He had a good night producing a firm and confident performance, with two saves in the 73rd minute from Angel and Mata's shots plus a final on the 90 minute mark. He has conceded just 19 goals in the whole course and it was his seventh clean sheet.

Courtois has played more matches in his first season at Madrid, 32 divided between 24 leagues, five Champions, one Copa del Rey and two in the Club World Cup, the first and only title he has won with Real Madrid. He has conceded 42 goals, an average of 1.2 per game for the 0.95 Keylor.

Zidane announced that next season there will be no debate because he will make clear in summer the role that each will have and from that moment "anything can happen", without closing the door to a departure of either of the two goalkeepers. His statements leave clues and fuel a debate that was closed until his arrival.
