This was recognised by Mourinho, who is free after coaching Oporto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid and Manchester United, in an interview carried out this Monday, with 'Mediaset Italia', in which he reviewed his experience during his time in change of the Milan team.
"It was the best defeat of my life, against Barcelona in the semifinals; and from there began two weeks in which we had the final of the Italian Cup (1-0 against Roma), the decisive match for the league title (against Siena) and the Champions League final in Madrid," he recalled.
"It was like a film with a happy ending. It has been a fantastic story", Mourinho added, who, after winning the triple with Milan, left the team to manage Real Madrid.
He stressed that the love that the fans had for their team was enormous and that he preferred to not return to Milan after winning the Champions League because, in doing so, he would not have had the strength to leave the club.
"After the first year in Milan, when we won the 'Scudetto', I understood the fan's passion. Imagine how it would be after winning the Champions League. Inter were a family and to say no to a family is always difficult," he added.
"If I were to return to Milan, I would have said no to Real Madrid for the third time in a row. But in my mind, I wanted to win the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga, and I didn't want to miss out on this opportunity.
