The United boss raised eyebrows with his selection as his side traveled to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Saturday, with Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Juan Mata all starting in what was an attacking-looking side.
However, speaking in his role as a pundit on 'Sky Sports', Neville said that he was not surprised by the lineup, with Mourinho taking a much more "reckless" approach away from home than earlier in his career.
"It's attacking. You could even argue too attacking. People still say now Jose Mourinho he parks the bus," Neville said pre-match.
"Forget it, he doesn't, not any more at Manchester United he hasn't done it for 18 months.
"In fact I would say sometimes it's a reckless approach away from home, even at home.
"The Tottenham game this season, Arsenal and Tottenham away last season. City, all big games where there have been goals, they've been open. And I have to say it's a different approach he's used historically when he's been manager of Chelsea."
In the end, Mourinho and co were made to do with a point as Ross Barkley struck at the death to maintain Chelsea's unbeaten record.
