The French international was one of the hottest properties in European football following an impressive 2016/17 season during which he played 51 times in all competitions as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
That convinced Chelsea to part with a not insignificant sum to secure his signature, but a disappointing first season in English football and a considerable overbooking in the Chelsea midfield meant the club allowed him to move on again this summer on an initial loan, with a view to a permanent.
"He needs to learn to win the ball back. You can't get rid of all a player's defects in a week and we need to work well. I would have preferred to be a coach of older and more experienced players," said Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso of Bakayoko.
With those comments still fresh, Spanish publication 'Mundo Deportivo' claims that Milan are considering cancelling the loan for sporting reasons and shipping Bakayoko back off to Stamford Bridge.
The former Monaco man has featured in just six games so far this season, playing a little over 250 minutes.
