Messi gets injured in his first training session

Terrible news for Barcelona. Leo Messi was smiling as he went out onto the pitch with all of his teammates in his first training session back after his holiday. However, that did not last long as he picked up an injury very quickly. 

The Argentinian striker had to stop and receive treatment from the club doctors in a training session which has affected Valverde's plans for the whole week. Leo Messi will not go to the USA. 

The footballer had to pull out because of problems he felt in his right leg and he was quickly subjected to tests. They show that Messi has got a first degree injury in the soleus. 

The Argentinian star will not get on the plane for the final pre-season matches before they get their season underway at San Mames against Athletic Bilbao. 

Messi will stay in Barcelona with the aim of being ready for the first league game of the season. 

This was Barcelona's statement: 

"The first team player Leo Messi, who returned to training this Monday after the summer holidays, has pulled out of training because of a problem in his right leg. The tests carried out have shown that he has a first degree injury in the soleus. Therefore, Messi will stay in Barcelona to recover and will not travel to the USA. When he returns will depend on how hie recovers."

Messi did not play the Gamper trophy versus Arsenal because he had not trained after returning from holiday, but he did take the microphone to act as leader and speak to the fans. Fans who are hoping for better things this year after they failed to win the treble last year. 

"It's difficult to say anything after last season, but we will fight for everything. I don't regret anything. I'm saying the same thing I said last season: I have faith in this squad, in these players and in the coaching staff," Messi said before suffering this setback.
