Mbappe hits back: "I explained it was about racism, not the penalty"

President of the French FA Noel Le Graet revealed in comments that Kylian Mbappe thought about the possibiliry of leaving French football after missing the penalty which saw France knocked out of the Euros by Switzerland last summer. 

France were one of the big favourites to win the Euros as they headed into the competition as the World Cup winners. But the French team were eliminated by Switzerland in the last 16 on penalties. It was 3-3 after 120 minutes of action. 

Mbappe missed from 12 yards in the shootout and that saw France knocked out of the competition. Apparently, after that, Mbappe was close to ending his time as a France player. 

In comments made to 'Le Journal Du Dimanche', Le Graet said the following: "Kylian's a winner, he was very frustrated, like all of us, by the elimination. He felt that the Federation had not defended him after his missed penalty and the criticism he faced. He was angry, he didn't want to play for the French team any more."

But the PSG player wanted to respond to these comments made by the French FA president with a strong message published on his Twitter account. The message went viral in a matter of minutes. 

"Yes, well, I explained to him that it was to do with racism and not the penalty. But he considered there hadn't been any racism...," the 23 year-old striker wrote to explain the real reason for almost quitting the French national team.
