Marcelo's performances are a great joy, and a headache, for Zinedine Zidane. The Brazilian full-back is very close to his best, just enough to fight for the league title.
Marcelo had weakened in the last two seasons. First Reguilon had taken his place and, this season, it was Mendy who won his starting position.
Against Athletic, the Real Madrid wing-back was once again that player who dazzled, especially in attack, and who was sure to keep his back to defence.
Moreover, that victory meant that Marcelo reached the 350th victory in the Real Madrid shirt. The Brazilian has now played a total of 509 games since his debut on 7 January 2007.
Marcelo has returned to a level that makes Zidane hesitate about who to opt for in the remaining matches. Mendy has also performed well every time he has been in the starting eleven.
