They are in very different stages of development but there is no doubt that the two Manchester clubs are in the process of transformation. Whilst it is more structural for United, for City it is a generational shift as some of they look to replace some of their older players.
Both clubs are looking at Atletico for their signings. Saul is a top target for Manchester United and is also a player that is admired at the Etihad, but, as is well known, Saul is a key player for Diego Simeone. To be able to sign Saul it is likely that one of the Manchester clubs would have to offer in excess of 150 million euros, the Spaniards release clause, as Simeone will not want to lose Saul.
Rodrigo will not come cheap either, costing at least 70 million euros. At 22 years old, it is entirely possible he could become the new Sergio Busquets. With Lucas Hernandez already having departed Atletico, it is quickly looking like it is going to be difficult for the Spanish club not to be spending significant money this window.
Fernandinho has a contract with City till 2020, by which team he will be 35 years old. It is Guardiola's priority to find his replacement before his contract ends, as the Brazilian has become a key member of the Man City side.
