Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has been given a one-match suspension as punishment for a racially insensitive tweet posted in September, the Football Association has confirmed.
The Portuguese was punished for a racist tweet he sent to fellow City player Bernard Mendy. The tweet included a photo of the Frenchman when he was a child, alongside the mascot for the Spanish chocolate brand Conguitos. He captioned the tweet with "Guess who?" and two laughing emojis.
He has also been fined 50,000 pounds and must complete face-to-face education.
So far this season, Silva has played 11 Premier League matches, netting 5 times and getting 2 assists, however, he will be unavailable for City's next match.
