FT: Man City 4-1 Club Brugge! They had to bide their time, but City’s patience and pressure eventually paid off as Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus ended Brugge’s resistance in the second half. It’s a vital win for Pep Guardiola’s side which opens up a five-point gap on the third-placed Belgians and takes some of the pressure off ahead of Paris’ visit to the City of Manchester Stadium in three weeks.

GOAL for City! Cracking goal. It had been coming. Palmer and Cancelo drive through the middle before finding Jesus on the left of the area and he just side foots it across goal and into the far corner.

GOAL for City! Raheem Sterling... He's not been on the field long but Sterling gets the third goal. Again it's a cross from the left which does for the Belgians, as Gündo?an drives into the area and squares it for the England forward. Simple.
  • 68'
Man City double sub: Gabriel Jesus on for Grealish and Sterling on for Mahrez.
  • 63'
Driven high and wide by the City captain after a poor clearing header.
  • 60'
Brugge are starting to commit more men forward when they do have the ball, leaving gaps at the back for City to exploit.

Rodri concedes a free-kick for a foul on Lang.

GOAL for Man City! Riyad Mahrez... Moments after De Ketelaere had a good sight of goal for Brugge, they leave Mahrez all alone for a free header! Cancelo's ball in is well flighted but Mahrez could not miss.
  • 51'
Good play again from Cancelo to tease in a cross, Stones heads down but it's tame.
  • 50'
Corner awarded to Man City, conceded by De Ketelaere.
  • 50'
Kevin de Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling have been sent to warm up at the start of the second half. How long before Guardiola makes his first throw of the dice?
  • 47'
Fine football - Grealish threads the needle to play in Mahrez, who shoots low and Mignolet saves with his legs.
  • 46'
The second half begins in Manchester!
  • 45'
HT: Man City 1-1 Brugge! It all started so well for City, who dominated the early stages before having the wind knocked out of their sails by that bizarre equaliser. The hosts have struggled to rediscover their rhythm and have lost possession cheaply on several occasions. Pep Guardiola is unlikely to be too happy in the changing room.
  • 44'
    Corner awarded to Man City.
  • 42'
What a move. City sweep from side to side with Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker linking up superbly, Walker's low cross eventually turned around the post.
  • 40'
City look far too open down the left – or Brugge's right. The majority of the visitors' attacks are coming down that side, with Lang in particular finding plenty of space between Grealish and Joao Cancelo.
  • 36'
Bernardo Silva concedes a free-kick for a foul on Sobol
  • 35'
A little less than 10 minutes to go till half time. It would be very good for Club Brugge if they would be able to hold on to that 1-1. It's clearly not the same Manchester City we've seen in this first half that played Brugge away.
  • 32'
Brugge having a really strong spell. De Ketelaere spins inside the area and drives in low and Ederson has to make a sharp save. The away end in fine voice.
  • 31'
Rodri concedes a free-kick for a foul on Lang.
  • 27'
    Mechele is penalised for handball.
  • 25'
The majority of noise is coming from the away end now. That goal has knocked the wind out of City's sails somewhat, but the hosts have regained control of possession and are probing the visiting defence for an opening.
  • 24'
Corner awarded to Club Brugge, conceded by Stones.
  • 19'
Grealish is adjudged to be in an offside position.

GOAL for Brugge! What a response! Ederson makes a good save to deny Vanaken's strike, but when the ball is fired back in it hits Stones and flies in. City were sleeping at the back.

GOAL for Man City! Phil Foden... But the home side don't have to wait long to score. City keep the ball from that Cancelo effort, the full-back whips the ball across goal and Foden is free to tap home from close range.
  • 14'
Cancelo hits the woodwork!! It's nearly a brilliant goal! Grealish sends Joao Cancelo away, he chips the keeper and sees it hit the post and bounce clear.
  • 12'
A good chance for City. Grealish finds Cancelo, and when his shot is deflected up into the air Gündogan puts his effort wide. He may well have been offside.
  • 11'
Brugge's first attack. A good ball from Clinton Mata leads to a corner which Sobol slices wide from the edge of the area.
  • 8'
Corner awarded to Man City. A fine driving run by Foden into the area wins a corner.
  • 5'
Brugge starting with a back five as expected by Guardiola. Walker is quick to get involved in the attack.
  • 3'
Lovely flowing football from City ends with Silva seeing a powerful shot well charged down.
