Real Madrid have been watching the player for some time, but his performances on the international stage this summer have caught the eye once again.
Now, with a move for Paul Pogba appearing more and more complicated, Fabián's name is back on Real's radar as they weigh up other options.
Pogba wants Madrid and Madrid want Pogba, but Manchester United are determined to keep hold of the midfielder for one more season - 'Marca' are reporting that United chiefs are refusing to even negotiate over a possible move away.
Fabián, for his part, has enjoyed an impressive debut season at Napoli in which he featured 40 times, scoring seven goals and dishing out five assists.
However, Napoli spent 30 million Euros to bring the player to Italy from Real Betis just last summer, meaning they are unlikely to let him leave so soon.
Furthermore, the player himself seemed to pour cold water on rumours linking his name to the Bernabéu weeks ago.
"Real Madrid? I have a contract and I'm happy here, the fans can be calm. I thank them for the support they have given me. Thank you for your love, my reception at the club has been very positive," he said.
