With the departure of Santiago Solari from the Real Madrid bench, there was one space to be filled by what seemed to be a mountain of potential suitors.
Clarence Seedorf was one of the rumoured replacements, a post that he classifies as a great challenge and "an honour".
However, in an interview with 'FIFA', the Cameroon coach wanted to focus on his current concerns, the preparation of his team for the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
"It was a tremendous challenge to prepare this team in just a few days when, normally, you would have an entire pre-season with a club. And really, it was a very exciting process," explained Seedorf.
Regarding Cameroon's chances for this championship, he stresses that they are "in good shape and the atmosphere is positive. "Then we'll have to translate that into the games. Nobody is going to have it easy when facing Cameroon," he warned.
He also admits that "seeing Africa is a great cultural experience," despite the fact that "there are still a lot of problems. "The potential, the talent and the energy are fantastic. It's wonderful to be able to get to know these countries, and it's a privilege to be able to travel all over Africa and work there," he added.
Ajax's international success was commented on by Seedorf as a "positive for football".
"They have a good mix of young and experienced players, which allows young players to perform well. We had an Ajax that showed the spirit of Amsterdam again and I love that," he concluded.
