There was a lot of optimism from both teams going into this game, with both Liverpool and Arsenal winning their previous matches. Liverpool would have the upperhand as they were playing in front of a home crowd, as well as the fact that Arsenal's success record at Anfield isn't the greatest at all! They were looking to change this in the Premier League clash.
Liverpool started out on the stronger foot in this game, as they dominated in possession and had a lot of chances in the first 15 minutes, they just could not seal the deal and convert these chances to goals! Arsenal looked a little helpless upfront and didn't really attack at all in the start, although debutee Pepe looked strong and promising for the Gunners.
The first goal came just before half time, where Matip converted a corner from Alexander-Arnold and headed the ball into the top corner. Mane tried to repeat this a few minutes later but the ball flew over the crossbar instead! Liverpool looked really threatening to Arsenal in the first half.
At the start of the second half, David Luiz gave away a penalty as he pulled Salah's shirt inside the box. Salah stepped up to take the penalty and was perfectly composed. There was no stopping that goal as it went right in the top left corner. He delivered it with so much power and confidence and it was the perfect start to the second half for Liverpool, for Arsenal, not so much!
There was a 3rd goal by the 57th minute, as Liverpool were completely running rings around Arsenal. Salah has a massive run up from the right hand side and just slotted the ball past the keeper, the movement, speed and passing was just sensational. A quality finish to put the Reds far ahead and so far get their first clean-sheet of the season.
Liverpool have scored 90 goals in their last 30 home games and kept the record running there!
After this goal it was pretty much all Liverpool, after the substitution of Torreira Arsenal got a consolation goal as Aubameyang passed to him in the box and he showed some fighting spirirt and punched the ball into the bottom right corner.
The game ended 3-1, leaving Liverpool victorious and their 100% win rate still in tact. Arsenal, on the other hand, will be left deflated and Unai Emery and his team will go away very disappointed with that result! A stunning performance from the Reds which helped us to see their quality and ambition.
