Liverpool v Arsenal is always a high-scoring matchup. Jurgen Klopp has faced Arsene Wenger's side three times in the Premier League and those matches have produced a total of 17 goals.

Alexis Sanchez returned up front for the Gunners, but the major team news ahead of the game was that £53m striker Alexandre Lacazette missed out because he is currently in an "adaptation phase", according to manager Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal had the first chance of the game when Sanchez played a delightful through ball for Danny Welbeck. The ball, however, got stuck under the striker's feet and he could only fire high over the bar.

Liverpool should have been ahead with 10 minutes on the clock. Intricate play on the edge of the box allowed Emre Can to deliver a low ball across the face of goal for Salah. The Egyptian would have tapped in if it weren't for heroics from Petr Cech. He did extremely well to dive and get his body in front of the shot as the Gunners survived an early scare.

The home side did take the lead 7 minutes later. Granit Xhaka gave the ball away to in the middle of the park before Joe Gomez delivered a dangerous ball into the Arsenal box. Firmino was wide open and made no mistake with the header as he powered past Cech.

The Reds had the ball in the net again when Can lifted a ball over the Gunners defence for Salah. He poked past the onrushing Arsenal goalkeeper but was correctly ruled offside.

Just as Arsenal were starting to string a few passes together in the final third, Liverpool doubled their lead. The hosts broke with Firmino, who played a through ball for Mane on the left of the box. The winger then easily moved away from the challenge of Rob Holding and curled a strike into the far corner.

The Gunners changed to a back four after the break in an attempt to get back into the match but had no luck as Liverpool continued to press. Salah took the ball off Nacho Monreal on the halfway line and drove towards the Arsenal goal. Cech did well to parry his shot and Henderson fired the rebound over.

Salah did convert on 57 minutes after an Arsenal corner was cleared out to Hector Bellerin. The Spanish defender tried to control but the pacey winger nipped in and burst towards goal before easily slotting home at the near post.

The visitors had a rare chance with 20 minutes to play when Giroud headed a cross into the path of Lacazette. He attempted a volley but Liverpool had three men in the way and comfortably cleared.

Holding was the next Arsenal defender to get caught in a dangerous position. Mane benefited and was is in behind the Arsenal defence but Cech managed to get a hand to his shot and it rolled goalwards before Bellerin raced back to clear.

Free-flowing Liverpool bagged a fourth when they broke from defensive position once again. Can brushed aside a challenge before fizzing a pass into the feet of Salah, who then whipped in a ball in towards the far post. Sturridge had acres of space and headed into the bottom right corner.

Arsene Wenger’s side, who did not register a shot on target throughout the 90 minutes, had their final half chance of the game with with a free-kick some 30 yards out. Giroud rose well to meet the delivery but could only send his header high over the bar.

Liverpool closed out the game to record their third consecutive Premier League win against the Gunners for the first time since 1998. Arsenal, on the other hand, will face some serious questions after such a poor performance.
