Lingard leads a counter but he gets caught in two minds and his attempted shot is met by a stubborn block.
  • 80'
Krafth is down in a heap following a collision with Young.
  • 77'
Classic stuff from Dele Alli who "doesn't realise" he is being subbed for a good minute or so before eventually making way for Fabian Delph.
  • 72'
CHANCE! Far too easy for Sweden as a long ball forward from Olsen ends with Guidetti being set away in the left-hand channel. He crosses for Berg, who takes a touch before shooting on the turn but Pickford produces a vital finger tip to send the ball over the bar.

GOAL! ENGLAND! ALLI! 2-0! He missed a similar one against Colombia but he wasn't going to miss that! Trippier feeds Lingard on the edge of the box and he clips a wonderful ball to the far post for Alli to ghost in an nod beyond Olsen! It's on! England can smell the semis!
  • 57'
Lingard sees en effort from 25 yards charged down and blocked behind for a corner.
  • 56'
Kane clips a lovely looking ball in for Sterling in the box. Olsen starts to come, realises he isn't getting there and retreats, but it has just too much on it for Sterling to take advantage.
  • 54'
Some head-tennis in the Sweden box as Maguire heads the ball back into the mixer twice at the back post, once either side of an attempted overhead kick from Sterling.
  • 52'
Another lull in the game as England try to take the sting out of the Swedes.
  • 47'
GREAT SAVE! Jordan Pickford does it again! Berg gets up above Young to meet Augustinsson's ball in from the left and power in a header on goal but the Everton stopper produces a big left hand to deny the striker.
  • 46'
No changes at the break here in Samara as England get us back underway here.
  • 45'
HT: Sweden 0-1 England. Harry Maguire's first international goal is the difference between the sides at the break, which came at a bad time for England as they piled on the pressure in search of a second. the game was cagey early on, but opened up following the goal and the Three Lions could be further ahead had it not been for Raheem Sterling's profligacy.
  • 45'
England continue to press as they force a couple of corners but nothing comes of them.
  • 45'
    1 minute added on.
  • 45'
CHANCE! Henderson sends Sterling racing away with a wonderful first-time pass and he's one-on-one again. He tries to go around Olsen but he gets a touch on it and Sterling can then only fire against a defender as he retrieves the ball.
  • 44'
Very much a case of saved by the flag for Sterling! He is slipped in by Jesse Lingard and he is one-on-one with Olsen, but manages only to fire straight at the Sweden goalkeeper. Fortunately for the Manchester City star he had started his run too early.
  • 43'
Sterling looks to control a long ball over the top but Lindelof comes across to dispossess him.
  • 41'
England starting to grow in confidence now as they stoke the ball around at the back. Raheem Sterling shows his pace to beat Krafth on the outside but his cross comes to nothing.
  • 36'
Sweden's game plan of keeping it tight is at risk after that goal, will they come out and make a game of it now?
  • 33'
England really are set-piece specialists these days aren't they?

GOAL! ENGLAND! MAGUIRE! 1-0! England lead. Young flights in the corner and Harry Maguire is unmarked in the middle to power home a header from the penalty spot! Pick that one out!
  • 30'
Kraft nods Trippier's cross from the right behind at the far post to give England their first corner.

Berg looks to have been sent racing away over the top but England's blushes are spared by the offside flag.

Lingard mugs Augustinsson and feeds Trippier on the overlap but it takes a nick off a defender and Olsen stoops to gather his low cross as Kane looked to attack it at the near post.
  • 23'
Sterling crosses into the hand of Forsberg from about a yard and appeals for a penalty but Bjorn Kuipers isn't having any of it and waves away the protests.
  • 19'
CHANCE! Sterling jinks past Larsson and the ball drops for Kane 20 yards out. He takes aim low but his effort curls an foot wide of Olsen's right-hand post. A sighter for the Tottenham star.
  • 17'
Krafth attempts to find Toivonen in the right-hand channel, but some strong England defending sees the ball run out for a goal kick.
  • 14'
Young swings in a cross from the left but it is headed away with ease.
  • 12'
Claesson has the game's first shot in anger as he lashes over from 30 yards and Pickford is quickly off his line to berate the lack of closing down. I wouldn't want to get on the Everton stopper's bad side.
  • 11'
Walker and Trippier exchange passes on the right before the former crosses into the box but it is too close to Olsen and the Sweden goalkeeper gathers.
  • 8'
England see off a free-kick from deep before Sweden launch in a long throw from the left but Granqvist handles as Walker attempts to clear and the pressure is lifted.

  • 6'
England surrender possession cheaply as they take a free-kick quickly and search for Young out on the left but the ball is behind him and flies into touch.
  • 3'
A somewhat predictable opening three minutes as the Swede cede possession to the Three Lions. England will have to be at their best to break down this stubborn Sweden side today.

Don't expect a high-scoring game today. England have scored just two goals from open play so far in the tournament, whilst Sweden have kept three clean sheets in four games to date.
  • PRVW
The bragging rights have been shared pretty equally historically:
  • PRVW
It is worth remembering that Sweden finished above Holland in qualifying, saw off Italy in the play-offs and topped their group ahead of Germany. They are no mugs...

The lads have arrived at the Samara Arena, where it's a scorching 30 degrees already:

A win today would see England into their first World Cup semi-final since Italia '90 and that night in Turin.

No changes whatsoever for England then as they name the same side that started the quarter-final win over Colombia.

England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Trippier, Henderson, Alli, Young; Lingard, Sterling; Kane.
  • PRVW
England's fans are beginning to believe, but today will be no easy game for them...
  • PRVW
No surprises from the Swedes as they make just the two changes from the victory over Switzerland as Emil Krafth comes in for the suspended Mikael Lustig at rught-back and Seb Larsson returns from suspension in place of Gustav Svensson in the middle of the park.

Sweden: Olsen; Krafth, Lindelof, Granqvist, Augustinsson; Claesson, Larsson, Ekdal, Forsberg; Toivonen, Berg.

England have won just two of the last 16 meetings between the sides (W2, D9, L5) and only one of the last eight competitive clashes (W1, D5, L2).

The two previous World Cup meetings between the two sides both ended in draws (1-1 in 2002 and 2-2 in 2006).

England boss Gareth Southgate has warned against complacency, urging his side to seize their opportunity: "Although our team will be better in two years with more life experience, maybe the cards on injuries and things won't fall as kindly and we won't get this opportunity again. It's dangerous if I start to get carried away, but I'm proud of the way we're playing."
  • PRVW
Sweden boss Janne Andersson revealed his love for English football: "I grew up in the 70s and we used to follow English football. It was only one televised match a week in those day. I grew up with this and England was my second nation. It's a wonderful feeling to face them as head coach of the Swedish team. But football has developed a great deal. What they still have is the heart and the spirit of fighting. I have always appreciated that but it's not the England I grew up watching."
  • PRVW
The nation has been awash with World Cup fever since that penalty shootout win over Colombia, and England will be looking to continue their march against a disciplined and fiercely competitive Sweden side.
