Full-time
No would be the answer to the last question. The referee blows the whistle and Germany are victorious by 3 goals to 2. Not that Joachim Low will be happy, the Germans dominated the first half taking the lead through Lars Stindl after just 5 minutes before being pegged back against the run of play by Tom Rogic's strike, the Germans replied almost immediately with Draxler slotting away a penalty after Luongo fouled Goretzka. The Germans started the second half well and went 3-1 up through Goretzka, at that stage the game looked as good as over but the Germans were brought back within touching distance again when Juric pounced on a parry from Leno. Man of the match: Leon Goretzka. The midfielder was at the heart of everything good the Germans did going forward and he helped himself to a goal and won the penalty for the second. Josh Kimmich deserves an honourable mention too at right back.
Last chance saloon for Australia
A dangerous looking through ball is cut out by the Germans, is there time for one more Australia attack?
4 minutes of time added on
Chance Germany
Mooy fails to beat the first man from a corner and Werner races away on the counter, he covers about 40 yards on his own before cutting onto his left foot and flashing the ball wide.
Good Defending from Mustafi
Behic finds himself on his own down the left, he looks to put the ball into a dangerous area but Mustafi gets across on the cover to deflect the ball into the path of Leno. Meanwhile at the other end Goretzka fires over from just outside the box.
Here he comes!
Final change for Australia who bring on the man, the myth, the legend that is Tim Cahill to replace Tomi Juric. He couldn't could he?
Germany looking to take the sting out of the game
Not much endeavour from the Germans who are happy just to keep the ball
We're into the last 10 here
Is there another twist left in the tale in Sochi?
Well played Leno
Another dinked through ball sees two Australia players bare down on goal but the German keeper races out to clear.
CHANCE AUSTRALIA
A routine ball over the top finds Juric who tries to go himself but when he gets crowded out he pulls the ball back to the edge of the box for Kruse who fires low but it's a routine save to Leno
Germany make their final substitution
Lars Stindl, who opened the scoring after just 5 minutes, is replaced by Liverpool's Emre Can
GERMANY HIT THE POST
Fantastically determined forward play from Werner sees him shrug off a challenge, he manages to cut inside Sainsbury onto his right foot about 12 yards out but his shot comes back off the near post. Nearly.
CHANCE AUSTRALIA
Troisi takes aim from 20 yards but his curling effort is saved by Leno
Germany's turn to hog possession
Niklas Sule steps out from the back and carries on his run but good defending means nothing comes of it
Australia make their second change
James Toisi joins the fray, replacing Tom Rogic, scorer of australia's opener.
Kruse impact
Robbie Kruse has looked sharp since coming on, he's working hard and his movement looks intelligent. He already had more of an impact in 20 minutes than Luongo had in 45
Australia holding onto the ball
They seem to have grown in confidence since scoring that second goal. They're playing the ball around nicely now
Germany make their second change
The impressive Julian Brandt makes way for Niklas Sule, looks like the Germans want to shore up at the back!
We have a game on our hands here!
Question marks over Leno for both Australia goals, Manuel Neuer probably isn't worrying too much about his position if this performance is anything to go by
Australia penalty appeal
Behic goes down after a tangle with Kimmich but the referee waves away the protests.
Germany make a change
Sandro Wagner is withdrawn and replaced by Timo Werner
3-2 Germany
VAR called into action again
A hint of handball but the goal stands.
GOAL AUSTRALIA
Mooy fires the free-kick into the wall but as the ball is put back into the box Juric finds the net after Leno parries the ball into his path
Free-kick in a good position for the Aussies and first yellow card of the game
Rogic nutmegs Rudy before being fouled by Goretzka, who is booked for the challenge
Germany looking for blood
White shirts pouring forward in numbers now, just after Ryan has to be alert to punch away a cross as Goretzka was lurking, the midfielder fires over from range after being found by Brandt.
3-1 Germany
Probably not the start the Aussies were looking for
GOAL GERMANY
Goretzka scores. Kimmich picks out his run from deep and he lashes past Ryan at the near post. Game over?
Offside
Kruse looks like the might be in behind but he's denied by the offside flag
Autralia substitution
Robbie Kruse shares a little moment with former Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Julian Brandt before coming on for Massimo Luongo
The teams re-emerge from the tunnel
Germany will get us back underway. Looks like Australia might be making a change
Summary of the game so far
Germany should be well ahead but as it is, Australia are still in with a shout, will the Germans be made to regret their profilgacy in front of goal?

Half-time
The whistle goes and it's Germany 2-1 Australia at the end of the half here in Sochi. Germany dominated throughout and took an early lead through Lars Stindl. They were pegged back against the run of play through Tom Rogic's long-range strike but went ahead again almost immediately when the impressive Leon Goreztka was brought down for a penalty which captain for the day Julian Draxler tucked away with ease.
1 minute of additional time at the end of the first half
2-1 Germany
Wow. What a 5 minutes that was.
GOAL GERMANY
Draxler rolls the penalty home. Ryan dives to his right and Draxler picks out the opposite corner. Germany lead again.
PENALTY GERMANY
Goretzka chases a through ball and Luongo cleans him out with a slide tackle, no arguments from the Aussies
AUSTRALIA EQUALISE
Cat, meet pigeons. Rogic gets the ball on the turn in the middle and tries his luck, his first effort is flying miles wide but Mustafi blocks it back into his path, he tries again with his left foot and his volley finds the net from about 20 yards out. Leno should do better there, the ball somehow manages to squirt underneath his outsretched hand
More good defending from Leckie
Wagner races away down the right wing after some intelligent movement, he looks for the runner at the far post but Leckie manages to divert the ball away for a corner from about 4 yards out
CHANCE AUSTRALIA
It's been a long time coming but what a chance, Mooy sends a free-kick into the box after Mustafi (who I had forgotten was playing) fouled Behic, Sainsbury found himself completely unmarked 8 yards out but his header lacks conviction and drops wide of the target. Great opportunity.
Germany nearly get in again
Draxler drifts inside from the right but his through ball is just too powerful for Brandt who would have been though on goal.
Draxler tries his luck
But his effort from outside the box never looked like troubling Ryan
Goretzka is looking very good here in midfield
Good on the ball, excellent vision and a willing runner, I'm enjoying watching him play
Lucky for the Aussies
They get caught trying to play out but as Wagner looks to set Draxler away the PSG winger gets the ball stuck under his feet and Australia recover.
Good effort from Brandt
Sainsbury turns away a dangerous looking cross from Hector, who takes the ensuing corner quickly. The ball comes to Brandt on the edge of the box who looks for the far corner but Ryan beats the ball away.
A few stats for you
65/35 in terms of possession in favour of the Germans, who have also had 9 shots to Australia's one
Germany well on top here
Goretzka can't quite grow enough to guide a header on target
The Aussies are yet to register a meaningful effort on target
Too early for Tim Cahill and route one?
Wagner should score
The Aussies try to play offside and fail, Wagner is on his own in behind but pulls his left-footed effort wide of the post. Should do better there for me.
CHANCE GERMANY
A fantastic reverse ball from Goretzka sends Brandt scampering away down the right, he slips as he bares down on goal but recovers enough to cut inside and get a shot away. Ryan blocks it out for a corner, which comes to nothing.
Germany looking for the ball into the channels
With Australia playing three at the back the Germans seem to think they can get runners in behind in the channels, they're not wrong, that's how they created the chance for Wagner a few minutes ago
Have a shot next time
The ball breaks following a short corner and Rudy tries an ambitious half-volley from fully 30 yards but his effort goes high and wide
GERMANY GO CLOSE
A ball is hooked into the box from the right flank, Wagner rises above Degenek but can only send his diving header inches wide of the post with Ryan beaten
Germany free-kick
Draxler crosses from the right but Goretzka can't find the target with his header
Australia go forward
Mooy looks to find space for a shot but is crowded out
Good covering from Leckie
The forward tracks his man back and is there to chest the ball back to his goalkeeper
Both sides looking to play out from the back
Germany are understandably having more success than Australia so far though
Free-kick on the right for Australia as they look to hit straight back
Mooy puts the ball in but nothing comes of it
GOAL Germany lead early on
Brandt brings the ball down the right flank and pulls it back to the penalty spot where Lars Stindl is waiting to stroke the ball home
Goretzka has the first effort of the game
He just about manages to get a touch on Draxler's cross but it's a simple stop for Matt Ryan
Early penalty appeal for Germany
Sandro Wagner goes down in the area but the referee waves play on
Germany looking to play out from the back
But looking a bit rusty as they hand possession to the Socceroos
Kick-off
The Aussies get us underway with a two-man kick-off, how traditional.
National anthem time here in Sochi
The players are lining up in the tunnel
And out they come
A look at the two teams
Although it has benn called Germany's 'B' team there's a lot of talent in their Confederations Cup squad, the like of Josh Kimmich, Julian Draxler, Leon Goretzka and Julian Brandt have all been tipped for big futures in the game. The Aussies have plenty of talent to call upon too, I've already touched on Aaron Mooy, but they also boast Trent Sainsbury who has just ocmpleted a loan spell with Inter Milan, Brighton's record signing Matt Ryan, Celtic's Tom Rogic, QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo and Hertha Berlin forward Mathew Leckie.
Plenty of eyes on Aaron Mooy today
The midfielder loooks set to join newly-promoted Hudderfield Town for a club record £10million just a year after leaving the A League
A very inexperienced Germany side
Today's captain Julian Draxler is the Germans' most capped player today with just 30 appearances under his belt. He's also the top scorer in their squad with 4 goals for his country. Compare that to Tim Cahill whose 97 caps, 48 goals and 37 years make him very much the veteran of the 'Socceroos' side.
Both sides looking well up for today if Twitter is anything to go by
