Both managers' messages before kick-off
Wenger: 'The FA Community Shield provides really good preparation for both teams and it’s a little indicator for the season ahead which can also give you some good confidence going into the start of the Premier League campaign. It will be another interesting encounter between two good sides, and of course, it will be a passionate and interesting match between two rivals ... It makes it easier for us to understand where we want to improve'.
Conte: 'Last year we didn’t have European football and I think it was important for me to have more time to work with my players. When you become a new manager with a new team, you need all the time to get across your ideas and philosophies. Now we need to improve our squad because we have more games and we need a bigger team to face these competitions. The transfer market is still open, and for sure we are looking hard to improve the number, and the quality, of players we can use'.
Alexis Sanchez sits out!
The Chilean will not feature at Wembley after returning to training earlier this week. Wenger's decision will fuel exit talk.
Big names missing!
Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayoko are out due to injury, while Diego Costa remains in exile. New signing Alvaro Morata starts on the bench for Chelsea. Alexis Sanchez is not available for Wenger, along with Ramsey, Ozil and Mustafi, who have finally not been included and join long-term absentees Gabriel and Santi Cazorla.
