The final stages of the Champions League, which will be played between the best eight sides in Lisbon in he middle of August, is once again in danger. UEFA do not have a plan B and the coronavirus could prevent the tournament could concluding.
Good weather is with us and football is back. Things have returned to a new normal and some may think that the coronavirus is behind us, but that is far from the case.
The coronavirus is still here and proof of that are the fresh outbreaks which have occurred in those countries where the virus seemed to be contained.
Portugal, with just 42,000 cases and little more than 1500 deaths, is one of the countries which has better managed the pandemic, but has still not defeated it. An example of this is the situation in Lisbon.
It is hosting the final eight of the Champions League, but one and a half months before the tournament, 700,000 inhabitants are locked in their homes because of the new outbreaks. Portugal are locking down certain areas to prevent another full lockdown.
The northern part of the capital is the worst affected, but the centre, where the Champions League will be played, seems to be fine. At the moment, lots of care is being taken. The world of football is expectant.
