Erling Haaland's was one of the most followed soap operas of the transfer market, but it has come to an end before the transfer window opens next summer. The Norwegian striker will play for Manchester City.
However, this was not so clear weeks ago. Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich, among others, were all linked with the striker and even the latter were trying to sign him until just a few days ago.
According to 'Bild', Bayern tried to sign Haaland until last weekend. The Norwegian was already very close to a deal with City, but the Munich outfit went all out and only stopped when the striker contacted sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and personally rejected the offer.
And this does not seem to have gone down too well with Robert Lewandowski. The aforementioned source claims that the striker and top star of the Bavarian team has been annoyed by the excessive interest of the German club. Moreover, Bayern are unwilling to satisfy his financial demands in order to renew his contract.
The Pole's contract expires in 2023 and he believes he is not being valued by Bayern. Negotiations to extend his contract are deadlocked over financial differences, so the big amount of money that would have been spent on Haaland's signing would be at odds with Bayern's approach to Lewandowski's contract renewal talks.
