Bayern Munich are resigned to losing David Alaba. After talks over a new contract fell through, it looks the Bavarians would rather him leave for free in the summer rather than getting some money for him in January. There is a very exciting fight for the defender despite his contract not expiring for another seven months.
One of the clubs who seem to be following the player closely is Real Madrid. It seems like the Austrian is the back-up option in case Sergio Ramos decides not to renew his contract and leave. The club are working now to try and get Alaba.
'Kicker' reports this Friday that Zinedine Zidane is talking directly to the Bayern Munich man to get to know first hand how he is in Germany and to try to persuade him to move to Madrid if he thinks he can sign the footballer.
The Real Madrid coach has reportedly told Alaba of his interest so that he knows the club's interest in serious and to try and get David Alaba before other European giants do.
The main stumbling block is his salary. He failed to agree a new deal with Bayern precisely because of the amount of money he wants. He could want even more given the likes of PSG and Juventus are also interested in him.
However, 'AS' says that Real Madrid's priority is to renew Sergio Ramos' contract. That has stalled due to a disagreement between the player and the club. Ramos wants a two year contract and a pay rise while Madrid are offering a one year contract with no change to his salary. Nevertheless, it looks like the two are getting closer to reaching an agreement.
