Joao Félix has tested positive for the coronavirus. That is what Atlético Madrid communicated through a brief statement on their official channels.
The club added that he is currently isolating at his home, where he will quarantine, to thus comply with the recommendations from the health authorities and La Liga protocol.
The young 21-year-old Portuguese forward is a key man in Simeone's starting XI, as his figures demonstrate: 9 goals and 4 assists in 25 official matches, starting 18 of them.
Atlético welcome Celta in the league in five days, on Monday 8th February at 21:00, in matchday 22 of the competition, a match that Joao will not make.
It doesn't seem like the ex-Benfica is going to make his side's match away to Granada either on Saturday 13th February, as only 10 days would have passed since that positive.
The Portuguese thus joins the already known absences of Carrasco and Mario Hermoso, who also tested positive for COVID-19, according to Atlético on Saturday 30th January.
"Our player @joaofelix70 has tested positive for COVID-19. He’s isolating at home, in compliance with the health authorities’ guidelines", the statement said.
