Ivan Toney charged with breaching betting rules

26 year-old footballer Ivan Toney has been charged with breaching betting rules. The Brentford player is alleged to have on football matches 232 times over a four year period.
"Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of The FA's Betting Rules. It is alleged that the Brentford FC forward breached FA Rule E8 232 times between 25th February 2017 and 23rd January 2021. Ivan Toney has until Thursday 24th November 2022 to provide a response," the statement reads.
Brentford have also acknowledged the news in a brief statement, "Brentford FC has been infomed that Ivan Toney has been charged with breaches of FA Rule E8. The club has been in discussion with Ivan and his legal representatives about this matters and those conversations will continue privately," they said before adding that no further comment would be made until the case was over.
The Brentford man scored both goals in the 1-2 victory over Man City last Saturday in the final game before the World Cup break and his omission from the England squad was controversial. Toney has scored 11 goals in 16 matches for the Bees so far this season
He is not the first player to run into trouble with the authorities for betting as Kieran Trippier was suspended for 10 weeks back in 2021 for giving inside information on a transfer. It remains to be seen whether Toney appeals the decision.
