Mourinho's book of excuses is growing by the day. The Spurs manager has already started to lay the groundwork in case Spurs make an early exit from the Europe League. It took a week for him to start complaining about something, the calendar, for example.
Just as he is about to strengthen his squad with key signings like Bale and Reguilón, Mourinho has instead chosen to make excuses in front of the press.
Tottenham will have to play a maximum of nine games in 22 days between the Premier League and the Europa League, given that they don't make an early exit of course.
In the calendar, Mourinho has the perfect excuse to complain and play the victim in case something goes wrong.
Although that said, he did make a good point. It's not only nine games but also the time spent traveling. "It's a joke, a real joke. On Saturday we will be in Southampton, on Wednesday we will fly to Macedonia and so on", he said, before the showdown against the 'saints'.
"It's quite dramatic, but I want to be in this competition, so we will fight until we can", he added, referring to the Europa League while leaving the door open to the possibility of early elimination. Elimination which, of course, would not be his fault. It would be because of the calendar, of course.
