Inter and AC halt their plans for a new stadium

Inter and AC Milan share a world renowned stadium, the Giseppe Meazza or the San Siro. A couple of months ago, the two clubs announced plans to build a new home, 'La Catedral'. According to 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', the plan has been halted this week due to complications with the city council.
The local government has delayed the plans in various ways and this has not been received well by the boards of both clubs. It is unknown as to what exactly has caused this, although it may be suggested that there has been a delay in the presentation of specific phases of the project or key paperwork in regards to its development.
The aforementioned source mentions in its opening lines that the two clubs do not like the city council's attitude, and so they are looking into options of constructing the stadium privately, without the assistance of the local government. The outskirts of the city are being looked at as a potential new home for the stadium.
However, it is still too early to draw too many conclusions. At the moment, Inter and AC have a project at hand, 'La Catedral'. This new stadium will renew both clubs' identities. The local government will have to change their stance on the project as soon as possible if they want to maintain their relationship with the football clubs.
