Martin Braithwaite was always clear he wanted to be a footballer and he did not stop until he managed to get it. He had a far from easy journey though. The now Barcelona player had hip problems which could have forced him to miss out on football.
"I don't have a lot of memories in a wheelchair because it's such a sad moment. It was a really tough period of my life," he told 'CNN' on the hip disorder he had between the age of five and seven.
Braithwaite said that he did not have any other plan apart from being a professional footballer: "When there's no plan B, you don't get distracted. I always wanted to be a footballer."
On his signing for Barcelona, which has seen him score seven goals and get three assists this season, the Dane recalled the moment he heard the rumours.
"I was picking up my son from football practice and we are driving home and my agent called and he told me that Barcelona is interested. He said they seemed really, really interested. It felt amazing. But I know in football when there's interest, it doesn't mean anything. There's still a long way to go for you to sign the papers," he said.
Barcelona said that he had "got the mindset to play in a big club with the pressure." However, his future at the club is uncertain if there are big changes in the summer.
