Benzema hasn't pulled on the French jersey since October 2015 when he bagged a brace in a 4-0 drumming of Armenia. After being involved in a sex tape scandal with compatriot Valbuena, the Real Madrid striker saw his reputation damaged, and now it doesn't look like he'll be returning to his national squad any time soon.
At least not while Deschamps, who recently renewed his contract, is in charge. And Benzema knows it. In the last few weeks, the Frenchman has eased up on his outspoken criticisms about the sticky situation in which he finds himself.
The striker previously claimed his exclusion was racially motivated - something that Samir Nasri seconded. Talking to 'L'Equipe d'Estelle,' Deschamps discussed this and more.
"Is Benzema going to watch the World Cup on television? I still haven't decided," was the France head coach's vaguely put statement.
Deschamps also touched on the importance of Antoine Griezmann: "It's mad for people to question Griezmann, he's our leader in attack."
