Guti became on Tuesday morning the new Almeria coach after the owner, the Saudi Turki al-Sheikh, decided to sack Pedro Emanuel despite the fact the team are in second place in the Segunda Division, an automatic promotion spot. They are also unbeaten in their last five matches.
The new coach arrived at Almeria airport in Al-Sheikh's private plane and was received by the club's director general and Al´Sheikh's right hand man, Mohamed el Assy.
On his arrival at the airport and when asked by the media, the ex-Real Madrid footballer said he was "very happy" and "excited" about joining Almeria. His first training session in charge was this Tuesday at 4pm in the grounds near the Juegos Mediterraneos stadium.
Guti's official presentation as Almeria manager will be this Wednesday in a press conference at the stadium.
He was the assistant coach at Besiktas and had previously coached Real Madrid's youth teams.
Guti's side are second in the league with six wins, six draws and two losses in an automatic promotion spot to get into La Liga. That is Turki's aim this season.
