Griezmann is staying, a decision which has brought happiness to Atletico and great disappointment to Barcelona, who missed out on the €100 million target. The French striker has been criticised for opting to reveal his decision in an informative behind-the-scenes documentary which showed all aspects of the footballer's life.
Atletico and Barcelona were in hard-fought negotiations for months. When it looked like Griezmann had reached an initial agreement, the red-and-whites made him a new offer with an improved contract, which was sufficiently improved improved for the Frenchman to remain in the capital.
The motives already mentioned appear in the documentary, which saw Gerard Pique involved behind the camera, but Griezmann took to the television channel 'TF1' to clarify his decision more.
"I've received a lot of love and support. I think the love and what my heart told me were the reasons behind my decision", said Griezmann, who is excited to be continuing with Atletico Madrid.
Regarding the transmission of the documentary, it was always the intention of both Pique and Griezmann for it to show fans the difficulty in taking these types of decisions. "I wanted to show people what it's like. There are people that liked it and people who didn't. I wanted people to know what it's like taking such a complicated decision and that it's not as easy as people think".
Griezmann affirmed that 'The Decision' hadn't annoyed French manager Didier Deschamps. He also thinks that he's more at ease after coming to his decision and is confident it is the right one.
