Galatasaray have revealed they have enquired about the availability of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Arjen Robben in recent months.
The Turkish club have been overshadowed by Fenerbahce in the transfer market - with their rivals acquiring Robin van Persie and Nani from Manchester United among several other purchases.
Galatasaray have made five new signings themselves, but Lukas Podolski was the highest profile of those in a low-key summer of transfer activity.
However, according to the club's chairman, Aziz Yildrim, the club were ready to move for two of Europe's biggest names.
"Galatasaray spoke to Ibra a month ago," he said. "He has a contract with PSG for one more year.
"Our sporting director Guilliano Terraneo called Mino Raiola and asked him what Ibrahimovic's situation was at PSG, but Raiola said if he left it would be for Fenerbahce and not us.
"Ibra is getting about €14 million from PSG and they are thinking about extending his contract for two more years.
"However, he could leave PSG for Milan. I do not know what is going to be happen but he could join Fenerbahce next year as well.
He added: "We also talked with Bayern about Robben but they do not want to sell him."
