There have long been rumours that the Lancashire club were on the verge of a takeover, but it seems as though the move is finally going to materialise.
Reports suggest that Hong Kong-based International Entertainment Corporation will complete the £22 million takeover next month, after which Royale will be installed on the board.
The deal would see Dave Whelan end his 23 year ownership of the club, in which time they became an established Premier League side for a number of years and won the FA Cup in 2013.
Former England striker Royale's role on the board is unspecified at the moment, as is the role that current chairman and grandson of Whelan David Sharpe.
