Arsenal played their first preseason match on the Singapore leg of their preseason tour against Atletico Madrid on Thursday, and their youthful-looking squad impressed many.
Youngsters such as Joel Willock and Eddie Nketiah got their chance in the first-team against an experienced Atleti team that included the likes of Kevin Gamerio and Diego Godin, but the young players held their own and managed to get a draw in 90 minutes.
The stand-out performer for many was 17 year-old Emile Smith Rowe, who scored the equalising goal as he bent the ball in to the corner of the net to cancel out Luciano Vietto's header.
Speaking after the game, Unai Emery spoke of how impressed he was with the U-17 World Cup winner, saying "Emile is 17 years old. He has grown up in the academy and we need to give young players the chance to work for us every day and play matches like today."
Arsenal have struggled in recent years to get their youth products to make an impact on the first-team, with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott leaving the club recently.
However, the former PSG boss believes that the club need to give their youngsters chances if they are good enough for a first-team opportunity.
"This is the moment for young players to show their quality, like Emile has done today," he added.
"For the history of Arsenal, it needs every year and every day for us to work with young players to give them the chance to work for us and show their quality."
